New theme, New Host!

Well, The Bronze is lightening fast for a change and that seems to be a side effect of my switching from Hostinger * (Sorry, Nan!) to the lovely and adorably named Giraffe Host.

Since I’ve gone and changed hosts I thought it was about time to get up a new theme, one I designed, for a change. I’m not sure why I bother with cranberry shades all of the time, they’re not particularly lovely to anyone but me. The theme’s not completely ready (I’m still messing with the comment styles), but please let me know what you think, especially if you run into issues!

* I can’t believe I forgot this. The link to Hostinger is a referral link, if you add .co.uk to the end of the word you can get there withou using the referral link.

  1. I like the cranberry tones, I think they’re pretty :)

Thank you, darling! I think so, too. :)

  2. I like the cranberry! All your colours work really well together. Good luck with the comment themes! I’ve given up on trying to make mine look nice – hopefully you’ll have more luck then me =]

I think I’ve about given up, too, lol!

  3. Kya’s hosting server is really fast, isn’t it? :D

I’ve never tried Hostinger before. Did you like it until it lasted?

I love your theme! I think you should design it the way you like it; after all, it reflects your taste and your readers want to see that. :)

I’ve checked your source code and all I see is a few not well nested p’s and div’s, but that’s all. Neat coding!

Really happy to have a new buddy around. ^_^

    Many hugs,

    Luana

Hostinger didn’t die, or anything, my particular server had issues and I had already applied to move to Giraffe before that happened. I did like it, still do as I’m going to host my portfolio there, I definitely recommend them!

Yes, I know about the crappy rogue p’s, I have the horrid habit of pre-paragraphing my page content and I have no idea why I do that. xD I think it’s to make things harder for myself when I have to go back and remove it!

      • Yes, sorry, that’s what I meant by “until it lasted”. ;) Until you used it, that’s it. Looks like a nice service! I might try it sometimes (a bit of hosting decentralization doesn’t hurt).

Ah, you pre-allocate paragraphs? XD I only do that with main sections and divs. P tags are sneaky… sometimes something’s wrong with my coding and can’t figure it out, until I see it’s a leftover p hanging lonely somewhere. LOL

        • Faye Faye

I do pre-allocate, but it’s a force of habit from coding while I write. Ridiculous, really, as it tends to mess up everything I’m doing and there’s no real reason to do it, lol. Hope you’re feeling better, darling!

  4. This is actually one of my favorite color palettes, so I love the new layout! The only thing that bugs me (and it’s positively minuscule, trust me)–the color of the links on white is a bit too bright. Perhaps it’s just me. But I love the look, the style, the feel; it’s gorgeous! :D

    • Faye Faye

It absolutely might not be you! I appreciate any and all feedback, thank you so much! :)

  5. Hi, Faye! Congratulations on moving to a great host and for this gorgeous new theme. The cranberry colour scheme is pretty elegant.

I must say, I love your domain name. I grew up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer :)

    • Faye Faye

Yay, a fellow Buffy person! Thank you bunches and bunches. :)

I like the tones! And it’s so nice that you know how to tweak your own theme (or make one). I seriously would love to learn how to. Lol. x

It’s not terribly hard if you’re not looking to do something huge. Actually, I might post a few tutorials on the subject. I’m not the be-all, end-all for theme design (far, far from it) but I can at least try to get people headed in the right direction? :)

  7. I hope you enjoy your new host and don’t run into any issues – I have been hosted by Kya of Giraffe Host for quite some time (since way back!), she’s so lovely and has promptly solved any issues I have had. :)

When it comes to reddish shades, I love the colour red, I don’t like the colour pink, and maroon is alright… but I do like the way all the colours in this theme fit together. It looks lovely!

I never was hosted by Bubble.nu (or Kya, that I can remember) but I was part of her old forums and being part of a community as well as having a host seemed like a win-win.

I also like red but I find it too harsh on my own eyes when I’m trying to read a blog so I tend to stay away from anything that could potentially ouch my visitors, although I’ve seen it used really well! And thank you. :)

  8. I’ve heard good things about Giraffe, I think it’s a great service for someone looking for a simple host for their sites. In agreement with the bulk of your commenters, the cranberry theme works well. It’s just the pop of color that all sites need. From a design back-end, I just see the muted tones to keep everything blended together. It’s quite different to see a single post with the comments only though, not sure how good that’s going to be for your SEO but to each their own. I hope you enjoy your time with the new host, and your “Hocus Pocus” brushes are absolutely adorable.

    • Faye Faye

Actually, if you visit the permalink you’ll see that single page is fully functional, it only jumps past the blog post to the comments if you use the comment link – although, it might be confusing, I suppose? I’m definitely not opposed to rethinking one of the weird things I’ve done, lol. Thank you for your comment! :)

  9. I like the colour, very different! Glad you found a new space!

    • Faye Faye

      Thank you, sweetie!
